Joe, I think I was sleeping at the 23rd hour of the race, lol... Did you check the "NO BIB" photos? It's also really tough to take photos that early or late at night when it's dark and drizzling. I
was at the start at 5:45 AM and I didn't leave until 7:30 AM. I hit up different photo spots too, which allowed for a variety of awsome pics! It was also tough counting and remembering bib numbers,
making sure I at least got a shot off of everyone. I have over 220 unidentified runners due to hidden bib numbers, so check those ones out and I'll due my best to snap a shot of your soul next year!

I just want to let everyone know that your great comments and suggestions are immensely appreciated. We learned a lot from this year's race, and as a result, things will be even better for RR #3 next
year. All you runners, volunteers and sponsors made RR #2 an enjoyable and gratifying experience. Thanks.

Yes, Yen did get her headlamp back from Debbie. Thanks for all your kind comments. I've also had a lot of great comments about the tech shirts, and everyone seemed to love Tom Hosner's soup at the
fire station. Being a great runner himself, he seemed to know exactly what the runners needed and when they wanted it. We had it at the Sports Park a bit later, but Tom was on it much quicker.
The clean porta-potties were just a result of having so many ultrarunners there. They tend to be a lot cleaner and more considerate than short distance runners.
I hope you, Jeff, Lindsay and Emily will all come back for RR #3. Thanks again!

I just wanted to thank you and Debbie for putting on a great race last month! My friends (Jeff, Lindsay, and Emily) all had wonderful experiences, and we are so thankful that we got to participate in
Some things that I really wanted to emphasize:
1. the cleanliness of the porta-potties. Did you instruct the volunteers to keep them clean? Because they were the cleanest porta-potties that I have ever seen at a race!
2. the soup at Fire Station and start. The best food on the course!
3. the friendliness and dedication of the volunteers. Made all the difference.
4. the classy, bold T-shirt. I have been wearing mine proudly.
This is definitely the most beginner friendly course that I have ever been on. I have such great memories from the weekend. Thank you so much for your time, effort, and dedication.
Lastly, I wanted to make sure that Yen Darcy got her headlamp back? I gave it to Debbie to give to her when she returned in the morning. If she didn't, may I have her phone number or email? I would
like to buy her a new one.

Charlie! I had a great time doing my first and LAST 100 mile event! Everyone from the volunteers to the photographer was on top of their game and I give them props for being out there on a cold
day/night. No complains whatsoever on my part. Definitely one of the most organized races I've ever been a part of.

Thank you for all your work in putting this event together, it was an incredible experience. My goal was to complete my 1st 50 Mile run and not worry about time, I got to experience that and much
more! I got to run alongside great people full of encouragements and smiles, the volunteers were exceptionally helpful and the course was great for a first timer. I will definitely run this event
again, so please keep me posted if you host it before next year and by next year maybe the 100 miles. I want a belt buckle!

Charlie, Debbie and Rob, You did it again! What an incredible event! Everything was perfect! The course was beautiful. The aid stations were well-stocked. The volunteers were helpful and friendly.

I want to echo the high praise for the race organizers and volunteers. This was my second RR 50-miler and although there were LOTS more runners this time, it was nice to still be recognized by name
and to see others enjoy the same treatment. It was such a joy to see Marina at Hawthorne and Tom Hosner at the fire station; your encouraging words were more valuable than you could imagine. Same to
Deb at the start and finish--your smile and that great big hug at the end (Gosh, I was stinky!) really made my day. Charlie, your events are always enjoyable because YOU make them that way. RR was no
surprise. And thanks, Rob, for making it happen in Coto!
There's one thing that struck me and that I share with all my non-running friends: each time I saw Ben Hian and Eric Clifton (and shouted my cheers), they returned with cheers for me too. How cool
that two guys with first class credentials would shout encouragement at me. This was a great event that was made great by the people. Whatever the weather, the terrain, the self-doubt, through
endorphins, exhaustion and exhileration I'm proud to have spent my day with some of the classiest people I know!

I ran the marathon starting early with the 100 milers(probably as close as I'll ever get to running 100 miles!) At first I was a little intimidated to be in the company of these incredible
people---but I found you all to be inspiring, helpful,and filled with the spirit that brought me to running almost 40 years ago. It was an honor to have shared a small part of your quest. Thanks

Rocky Road #2 was truly an other-worldly experience. It was one of the most self-satisfying 24-hour periods in my entire life. ///// Hey! Do we have to wait until Feb. 2012 for Rocky Road #3? I
certainly hope not. I really want to redeem myself sooner than that. ///// Next time out, I will definitely register all 100 miles. I learned a lot from my 67 miles last weekend. From now until the
next Rocky Road, I plan to practice running at the proper pace that will guarantee my finish. ///// I want to thank Debbie Alewine and all of those great volunteers who made this experience possible.
I also want to thank my fellow runners for the great comraderie. I especially want to thank Big Ed for the loan of a flashlight until I was able to retrieve mine. And I would like to thank Richard

#235 stopped at 45 miles, an #233 stopped at 30 miles, so your end was obviously different than their end. Yes, there were several DNSs, which shouldn't be of concern. Who cares who didn't show
because they didn't want to get their hair wet?

Seems that there were about 40 total entrants (M&F) as of race day, but only 20 finishers? Bibs 233 and 235 were with me to the end, but I don't see them on the results list at all. That many
DNFs or DNSs?

I want to thank all of you for an incredible event. Sure, we got a little wet during the first hour of the 100 Mile run, but overall the weather was better than predicted. We witnessed some gutsy
running this weekend, from Ben blasting away the competition, to many who completed their first 50 Mile or 100 Mile run. Awesome!!!! I have never been around so many great people in my life.
The volunteers were up for the challenge as well. They could have been at home, keeping warm and dry, but instead they chose to weather the cold and rain to serve and cheer on you runners. They
deserve major kudos as well.
I can't wait to do this again, however we learned a few things the hard way. We will be even better prepared for the next Rocky Road, and you will enjoy it immensely. Thanks again!

The rain wasn't as bad as had been predicted. The race had started at 6:00am Saturday morning in the cold rain. But fortunately, the real rain only lasted during the first hour or two of the race.
Then it was mildly intermittent sprinkles for the remainder of the weekend. The spotty drizzle lasted well into Sunday morning, but nothing to complain about. So, I guess that we did catch somewhat
of a break. But the damage had already been done to the trails. The extremely muddy, slippery course was bad enough in daylight. But in the darkness of Saturday night/Sunday morning - Ugh!. And,
shockingly, we did get some hail early Sunday morning. But that oddity just added character to the overall experience. I might also add that those who finished before Saturday night (marathoners and
50 milers) were not subjected to the brutal cold of sub-freezing temperatures. Therefore, the under-50 milers might have had an entirely different take on the weather conditions than those of us who
ran 50 to 100 miles.

Although I didn't make my 100 goal (dropped at 47.2 when the rain and hail hit), I enjoyed myself so much. The trails were amazing as were my fellow runners. Everyone had a smile or words of
encouragement and the volunteers were exceptional. I am not giving up on this...I'll be back. Thanks to Charlie and Debbie, Rob and everyone involved. You rocked the RR!!! Happy trail to all.........

Great ultra-marathon food: Pizza, boiled potatoes, PBJ sandwiches, bagels, bananas, pretzels of all types, Fig Newtons, chicken soup, assorted fruit, crackers, cookies, M&Ms, candies, Coca Cola,
hot chocolate, hot Starbucks coffee, hot Folger's coffee, Hammer Gel, and Heed. ///// I partook of everything except the cookies and the Heed. I am not a cookie-guy, never have been. ///// The one
thing that I might have added would have been chocolate milk (major protein). But I am not going to greedily push it. The thing about running for almost 24 hours is that you can eat and eat with
impunity. I probably should have eaten half of what I actually did eat, but what the heck. ///// Hey! It wasn't just the chow. Rocky Road #2 was a nirvanic experience of the first order. Thank You!

I don't mean to trivialize this, but a big huge DITTO to all of the good things said below regarding the race and the people who put it on. It was my first 100 and after 18 months of preparation, the
emotions I felt as I crossed the finish line were beyond description (kinda took me by surprise to be honest).
My special thanks to Coto local Chris for hanging with me for almost 60 miles and listening to my boring stories. I'm not sure I make it to that finish without your help. I look forward to running in
future races together.

The comments on the blog are all well deserved. The preparation for this event was certainly more challenging given the weather conditions, so it was all the more reassuring to see that the event was
ready to start on time. Like a number of others, this was also my first ultra.
Carilyn, Emilie and Lindsay were awesome. I was lucky enough to finish behind them. Suzy was great, very energetic and happy. I ran with Geoffrey for a while, he was encouraging, as was a lot of the
runners on the course whose names I will probably never know. The volunteers were great, thanks Kiley (hope I spelled that right) for your help, and remembering my name.
Two minor suggestions for improvement next year: 1) For those having never been to Coto De Caza – a route map that includes street names so that interested runners can use mapping tools to better
visualize the course, and 2) For those interested in bringing RVs – set a limit up front on the number allowed. I’m sure the request for RV parking ballooned into something unexpected, as I followed
the pre-race blog.
Oh, and thanks for being well stocked with all the essential supplies, especially the electrolyte pills! That was probably the most important item there, second only to the soup I had at the end of

Thanks to the RDs and all the volunteers but especially Kimberly at Hawthorne who loaned me her headlamp when my primary and then my backup headlamps both failed. I'll be sure to pay that forward.
That is the biggest buckle I have ever gotten (bigger than even RR in Texas and everything is supposed to be bigger there) and I dig my rock trophy.

Even though the course kicked my you-know-what, it's because of that very fact that I came away feeling exceptionally proud about finishing. I came THISCLOSE to dropping out at mile 75 because I was
